Spawn Proofing Calculator

Find how far apart to place torches so no hostile mob can spawn, using the exact block-light rule from Java Edition.

Source light level 14
Safe radius (taxicab) 13
Max square spacing 13
Max staggered spacing 18

Floor Light Coverage

Top-down view of a 25×25 floor with one light source at the center. Adjust the spacing above to see gaps appear once you space sources farther apart than the max safe spacing.

Uses the real vanilla taxicab (Manhattan) light-falloff rule: light drops by exactly 1 per block of |dx|+|dz| distance from the source. Multi-torch grid spacing assumes a single consistent light source type placed at every grid point — mixing source types or accounting for ceiling height/other obstructions isn’t modeled here.
